The Melbourne Football Club has embraced Primus Telecom sponsorship deal, ClubCall, which offers supporters the chance to switch their home phone service to the low-cost carrier in exchange for a monthly donation to the club.
Primus spokesperson Geoff Neate said ClubCall provided the double bonus of cheaper phone bills and an on-going income stream for the AFL club.
"We are committed to doing what we can to help support this football institution and will contribute 7% of customers' home phone bills every month to the Melbourne Football Club" he said.
"If just 15,000 members and supporters of both clubs sign up to ClubCall, the Melbourne Football Club will have the potential to receive over $1 million in cash this year. Importantly for the club, this deal is not just a once-off - every time a customer makes a call, they will be making a financial contribution to their footy club.
"Our message to the supporters of the Melbourne Football Club is clear - 'it's your club, it's your call:
- save with Primus' competitive call rates;
- keep your existing phone number;
- the process takes less than five minutes to complete over the phone or visit www.primusclubcall.com.au to sign up on-line;
- you're not locked into a contract;
- costs nothing to join ClubCall; and
- Primus is one of Australia's largest Telco's.
AFL legend Ron Barassi, who has been deeply involved in successful eras at the Demons, backed the plan.
"It costs nothing to do and it directly supports your club. If you're a member or supporter and you love your club, then this is a fantastic way to help them out every time you make a call. I've made the call, and so should you," he said.
"To sign up, supporters simply have to call 1300 789 665 or log onto www.primusclubcall.com.au to switch their home phone service to Primus ClubCall."
Melbourne Football Club skipper David Neitz said he and all his team-mates were leading the way by switching phone carriers.
"It's great to know that if we're on the phone to each other talking tactics, we're helping the Club in more ways than one!" he said.
The deal is on top of Primus' existing sponsorship arrangements and will go straight to the bottom line of the club, said Greg Wilson, Managing Director of Primus Telecom.
